Archipel
Sculpture, Photography, Printmaking 2016

Archipel is a project inspired by remote islands which were named after personal reasons by their discoverers. I was fascinated by the unusual names some of them are given, like Lonelyness, Ascension and Possession. The islands have the silhouette of lichen which were found in the woods and are made out of plexiglass, pigments and water. For a duration of two weeks, people had the opportunity to send in their post addresses. Postcards of the fictional islands have been sent to the participants, together with a personal description of a fictional journey on the specific island. When entering the island name into google translate, a feeling is shown which can be related to the island.
