“Art through the window” is a series of exhibitions initiated by The Artist and the Others. The aim is to provide space for the emerging talents working in the city of Maastricht while promoting the creation of Fair Art Practises within the artistic field.
The project aims to give more visibility to artists from Maastricht and connect those talents to Euregional curatorial talents. Enhancing the artistic cooperation among the cities of the Euregion, and strengthening the professional relationship with artists, professionals, initiatives and institutions.
In April we launched the first edition of Art through the window titled No Man’s Land, which was curated by Linda Köke and presented the works of Floor Martens, Karin Peulen, Sanne Vaassen and Pleun Moons.
For the second (June) and third (July) exhibitions, the foundation invited Belgium curator Riet Meeus and German curator Ana Sous to do studio visits in Maastricht.
During the studio visits, they will select the artists who will be part of their curatorial concept and will be involved in the exhibitions that will take place in June and July at De Meldkamer.
ABOUT STUDIO VISITS & CURATORIAL CONCEPTS:
Riet Meeus will visit artists from Maastricht and base her curatorial concept on the theme of “ Think Again”, Riet Meeus aims to bring artists into a dialogue that will enrich, inspire and create new ways of looking at each other´s artwork/ artistic practice. This dialogue will intertwine with how the exhibitions will be set up.
The starting point of this dialogue could be based on materiality, memories or embedded themes with which the artists are working on.
The studio visits are planned for Thursday 18th of May and Monday 23rd of May.

Ana Sous will do Studio visits on Friday, May 20th and Sunday, May 22nd and Monday, May 23, from 9:30 till 12:00
Ana Sous for her exhibition wants to work together with artists, who are curious to explore the relationship between different perceptions of the world. It circles around the sensation that “something is not quite right”, that there are other realities that may or may not be as true as the individual experience of each of us.
We are looking for artistic positions that draw the connection between global politics and developments, and personal experiences. How can both be thought of together – on a global just as on a private scale?
How can it be that people get lost in conspiracy theories when multi-national companies and even states commit the most grotesque crimes in front of all of us – and no one bats an eye?
Is it possible, that a generation that feels somewhat detached from reality is now in charge to shape this same reality themselves?
She would like to engage in a discourse that opens up to a plurality of realities as she believes that we can approach objectivity only by as much subjectivity as possible. Generational conflicts may be part of it as well as questions of privileges and responsibilities. Maybe we must not ask how to overcome this common unease, but acknowledge it as an indicator of contemporary phenomena. “I want you to panic”, Greta Thunberg said three years ago. Maybe let’s try with a little wonder first.
