Care to Care
Summer Training for Artists
11–13 September 2024, 9:30-16:00 – Munich.

The Summer Training is back!
This updated programme provides artists with the professional knowledge, skills and connections needed to navigate the art world. This year, the training has also a special focus on the topic of Care and how to integrate it in your practice.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The life of an artist is dominated by uncertainty, so how can we create a more sustainable practice? How can we integrate the topic of self-care and care within the art practice, and at the same create a more inclusive art world, while learning to navigate it?

Our 3-day intensive Summer Training offers 15 emerging artists the possibility to take part in over 24 hours of tailored activities – including workshops, face-to-face meetings and networking opportunities – in Munich, from the 11th to the 13th of September 2024. Plus a special portfolio review session (in-person and online) which will take place on the 11th of October at Lothringer 13.

WHAT MAKES THE SUMMER TRAINING UNIQUE?

Unlike other courses, the Summer Training gives participating artists the possibility to receive individual, personalised feedback and advice. In short, the program is tailored for you!

With sessions answering the needs of artists today, participating artists can gain concrete knowledge and insights to navigate the complex art worlds, and extend their professional network.

We want to help artists bridge the gap between art education and the professional world by providing specific tools and skills which can be applied again and again. We know that every artistic practice is different and there is not a model which can fit everyone, so tailored training and feedback are the key to building a sustainable career.

In the vibrant cultural scene of Munich, there are many opportunities for emerging artists. Through the Summer Training, artists have the opportunity to meet gallerists, curators, project managers, experts, as well as other artists, and get to know this art scene in real life.
In this way we foster a powerful art community, where long-lasting professional connections and friendships can be crucial when laying the foundations of future projects or opportunities.

WHAT ARE THE CORE TOPICS?

All of the topics covered in the programme are greatly lacking in, if not completely absent from, the curricula of art academies. In this 3-day intensive training, with over 24 hours of workshops, face-to-face meetings and discussions, you will:

  • Learn how to navigate the artworld(s).
  • Reflect on how to develop a sustainable practice and integrate sustainable strategies in your artistic practice.
  • Learn how to introduce Care in your practice and projects.
  • Connect with gallerists, curators, professionals working in off spaces, and other artists.
  • Learn how to select residency, exhibitions and grant applications, for emerging artists and artist-parents.
  • Build a meaningful portfolio & an effective artist statement.
  • Become part of a supportive, international network.
  • Get individualised feedback & advice.
  • Develop sustainable project proposals.
