Panel discussion: How do you develop a career in the Arts?
Talks with representatives of galleries, alternative exhibition spaces and experienced artists.
How can artists gain visibility? How do you build a professional relationship with a gallery? How do you price your work and what kind of dynamics do you need to consider? How can grassroot off spaces challenge the art system and support artists? How can an artist develop these relationships and build a sustainable career?
The most important strategy is to set up a supporting sustainable strategic plan that will be there for you when things get tough because the truth is that the art world is challenging to navigate. (Delphian, ‘Navigating the Art World, Professional Practice for early career artists’, 2020)
Presenting your work to an audience, showing it, and gaining visibility is a fundamental part of an artist’s career.
In this panel discussion, we will get to know the perspective of a gallery owner, a manager of an off space and an experienced artist. Each professional will share their expertise, explain what they look for when selecting artists, how you can approach them and what you should consider when searching for opportunities to showcase your work. We will look at how every space has different priorities, focusing on different things and reaching different audiences.
How can you gain visibility in a way which suits your practice?
Taking place inside PontArte Gallery, this open conversation with experienced artists, and representatives of galleries and alternative exhibition spaces from the Netherlands & the Euregio with a strong focus on emerging artists will allow you to connect and ask the questions about those aspects which stand between you and your next exhibition.
We are excited to announce that we will be joined by Marieke Severens, gallerist at PontArte in Maastricht, and Maxime Moinet, curator of Art Au Centre in Liège.
