Finally, we’re happy to invite you to the official opening of Sphinx Inside Out!
We’ll be happy to see you at The Student Hotel Auditorium at 17.00 on Tuesday, June 11th.
Feel free to invite your friends too!
After an opening speech, a short video with all the portraits will be projected and everyone could attend a special tour to enjoy Sphinx Inside Out installation.
Posters are installed on reaming walls of Sphinx following the streets of Achter de Barakken, Frontensingel & Boschstraat.
“Sphinx (inside-out)” pays homage to the history of the Sphinx Heritage and the city of Maastricht itself. It portraits 184 workers of Sphinx, from the former employees of the ceramic factory. To the photographic portraits of the squatters that occupied the buildings of the complex after the closure of the factory and the people that currently work in the new, redeveloped complex. Sphinx (inside-out)” portraits not just individuals.
The portrait are taken by artist Christine Munz and Sphinx InsideOut is part of a global art project by artist and activist JR.
The portraits are hanged on left over walls of Sphinx factory. Everyone is welcome to have a walk and enjoy the history of Sphinx through its workers.
The project portraits the history of Sphinx district and aim to reflect on the history of Maastricht.
The project is developed to celebrate and highlight the history and heritage of Maastricht, by giving a visual identity to a pivotal historical concrete building of Maastricht. The project is for all the inhabitants of Maastricht, the past and future generations. Is a project that celebrates the heritage embedded in the Sphinx area.
Throughout this project, we aim to collect and treasure the memories of people who worked, lived and still work at Sphinx, and to pass it on through a publication, to a new generation of Maastricht Inhabitants.
The project will run until the 31st of August, or until the posters will disappeared.
This project is possible thanks to the financial support of :
Sphinx Foundation, Municipality of Maastricht, Elisabeth Strouven Foundation, Code 043, Stichting Edmond Hustinx, The Student Hotel Maastricht.
