Change.
“As an artist I hate a lot of things about todays society. I want things to change and with my art I hope to represent this.“
Adam Collier is a 19 years old artist, despite his young age and still being a fine art student he has a clear view about things that our society should change.
Althoght we are moving to the next era and nearly to travel to Mars, things in our daily life seems to change …in worst! We are becoming more individualist and isolated. We do not talk or even smile anymore to each other because we are just in our ‘private word’. This is the concept behind Adam’s last piece.
His exhibition explores the issues with communication in our current predicament: “I am interested in the ways people encapsulate themselves in their own little world becoming antisocial and withdrawn, instead of building rapport and expressing themselves throught the power of speech and body language. I truly believe that face to face communication is slowly becoming a thing of the past. An essential element of my piece is body language and how these first impressions affect our decisions to approach or simply ignore.“
“The basis of the piece has a relation with communication and the way we are reserved and withdrawn when we are surrounded by people. I use the example of a bus and the way individuals fill the bus. However no one communicated by either putting their headphones in or simply looking out of the window. I personally think this needs to change talking face to face has become a thing of the past, instead we have become trapped ina non existent virtual world.” An individualist world… Is this one the future?
As Dr Seuss said “ You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go… “
So it’s your, our choice … In front of Adam’s last installation we have enough food for thought!
Adam is a young individual with a creative mind who has just been accepted to study fine art at Leeds University, England.
