A few weeks ago, an article on a local newspaper highlighted the lack of exhibition spaces in Maastricht. This has been affecting artists in the city for a long time.
For this reason, we are very happy to announce a new collaboration with the Design Hotel in Maastricht, launching during TEFAF 2022 (June 25-30).
From now on, there will be a new space in which artists can exhibit their work. While tourists will have the possibility to enjoy and discover local talents, artists in Maastricht will be able to reach new audiences, and perhaps even sell their works.
For the first exhibition, the Design Hotel is hosting artworks by Cassidy Maclear, Johnny Welcome and Veerle van Esser.
Meet the artists:
Cassidy Maclear will present her work ‘A Letter: To Colour’
She describes herself as a painter and a writer.
In 2020, she wrote ‘A Letter: To Colour’. In this love letter she flirts, embracing her obsession and devotion to Colour.
Colour is not understood as a quality, only seen in relation to an object, form or space – it is a self-standing entity.
Through her work, Cassidy Maclear shares the constant dialogue she sees in the world around her.

Johnny Welcome will present his work ‘Lightning Light and Price Of Value’
Jan-Willem van Leeuwen (also known as Johnny Welcome) is a Dutch designer who works as an observer, collector and translator. The focus is on his intangible inner thoughts and impulses, which originate from the speed and turmoil of Western Pop Culture. By applying manual and industrial techniques, he makes his inner thoughts and impulses tangible.
Johnny anticipates the response people can have, by combining visual and sculptural elements with traditional features of product design. His works question the extent to which we value, integrate and apply functionality in three-dimensional items.
Veerle van Esser will exhibit her special series of ‘Faces’
Veerle works instinctively and intuitively. She usually does not know what she is going to make, or why she feels she has to make it before creating the work. The process of creation helps her understand her experiences and allows her to realise what she subconsciously needs. It makes her aware of how she perceives and experiences the world.
“Feelings are very important to me and my work. After all, art reveals what creatives experience and how they feel in a specific moment of their life.”
How to visit the exhibition:
Visitors can enjoy the exhibition for free at the Design Hotel (Stationsstraat 40, Maastricht).
We want to thank the Design Hotel in Maastricht for this collaboration.
