Build your professional artistic backbone: Summer training for emerging artists focuses on new ways of learning for young artists who want to obtain valuable professional knowledge, practical skills & meaningful connections that their academic studies do not offer
Aim of the program:
Build your professional artistic backbone: Summer training for emerging artists is tailored to bring together 15 local and international artists.
It includes more than 30 hours of learning, discussing, visiting and interactive activities, tailored to the needs of young artists. You will gain hands-on knowledge on fair art practice, grants & residencies applications; become aware of how the art world works and what is the relationship between artists, their ideas and their representation in the world’s art stage.
You will connect with peer artists from several countries, across a range of disciplines and different skills.
The training is designed to equip you with the collaborative, practical, creative and professional knowledge, skills and connections that will support you to make the next step into becoming an independent professional practitioner in arts.
How will it work?
During an intensive and dynamic week (Monday 5th – Friday 9th of July 2021) of interactive workshops and activities, you will learn the existing dynamic of the art world, gain knowledge on artist statement, on artists´portfolio & make your own, learn how to apply for artists´in residencies program, and grants applications, and promote a fair art practice by activating the community.
Exchange knowledge with several art professionals including, curators, galleries, founders of art initiatives; break-out conversations and presentations spiced up by fun activities and guest artists.
Build your professional artistic backbone: Summer training for emerging artists is tailored to provide fifteen recently graduated artists the chance to acquire the knowledge, skills and connections that are needed to start developing a remarkable career, and immerse into Munich’s international art scene.
In this challenging period, where the cultural scene is strongly impacted by the current pandemic, the recent graduates are even more. With no exhibitions, events and even postponed or online graduation shows, there wasn’t any place for real connections. Connections that usually happen with interesting conversation and set the start of a professional relationship.
Moreover, in the uncertainty of our near future, graduated artists have higher chances to fall into the so-called “Black hole”.
This unsure period after their graduation, that due to the lack of professionals knowledge, skills and connections in their academic curricula, let most of the art graduates abandon the artistic career. This is what we want to avoid by offering them a solid bridge that recent graduates can walk on while gaining the confidence, knowledge, skills and connections to start building up the professional backbone to develop their career in the arts.
For whom?
Are you a graduated artist or an artist that has a solid artistic background who wants to:
- Gain new professional knowledge and skills in the field of arts and its intersections;
- Discover and become aware of the International and local artistic scene in Munich;

The workshops are highly interactive and created in order to maximise your participation and learning.
