From the 17th-21st of July 2023, the fourth edition of our Summer Training for Emerging Artists took place. 13 artists were selected to participate in this year’s rich five-day intensive which included more than 30 hours of professional training, hands-on workshops, presentations, discussions, visits to cultural spaces, and interactive activities – all specifically tailored to fill the gaps and meet the needs of the emerging artists taking part in the programme.
One of the participants this year stated that the Summer Training “changes your mindset, gives you tools for action, helps you understand how to proceed and why, gives you awareness and confidence, motivation and energy to continue working without fear.”
This year the central topics included:
- How to navigate the art world(s).
- Building a meaningful portfolio & artist statement.
- How to select an artist residency, exhibitions and grant application.
- Reflecting on how to develop a sustainable practice (meeting with galleries, off-spaces, curators and other artists).
The selected artists were:
Lorraine Hellwig, Picaroon, Jane Beran, Teresa Linhard, Betül Aydın, Anna Avits, Dunia Barrera, Janebare, Jenna Kowalke, Sara Mayoral, Julia Gold, Manuela Braunmüller, and Aditya Patel.
In the Summer Training, these 13 participants had the opportunity to connect to the professionals, developing their knowledge, understanding of the art world(s) and their skills.
It was a great pleasure to welcome, and share this rich week with each of them.
“I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide them with the conditions in which they can learn.” (A. Einstein)
The 2023 Summer Training was co-produced by The Artist and the Others and PLATFORM Munich, thanks to the financial support of Kompetenzteam Kultur- und Keativwirtschaft München.
